Hey ITC Readers!
Those of you in academia (or any school for that matter) know how crazy the beginning of the semester is. Obligations pop up, work load increases, and all those things you ignored over the summer are suddenly upon you. That said, the last few weeks have been so crazy I’ve barely been able to put any posts together!
But, don’t fear. I have some great new content coming to the blog this week and next.
Today I’m showcasing a gorgeous Lauren Ralph Lauren cocktail dress that I scored for less than a third of its retail price-brand new! How you might ask? By shopping secondhand! Thrifting used to mean sorting through dirty clothes bins for treasured finds, which I’ll admit I do actually find fun. But, thredUp is revolutionizing the game by bringing thrift shopping online. All garments are high quality and inspected for flaws, and lots of them (like this dress) are brand new still with tags! I’ve been shopping on thredUp for a while now, so when they reached out for a collaboration I was thrilled to share my secret for finding great but affordable clothes.
One last note about shopping secondhand before I share this gorgeous look. Fast fashion and wasteful consumerism is something I’ve become increasingly aware of in the past few years. And while yes, I indulge in a few forever21 and H&M finds from time to time, I really have become aware of decreasing the waste of material and resources that excessive consumerism brings. I feel great about shopping at thredUp because I can buy cheap and trendy pieces, but I’m rehoming something that was already in the market instead of contributing to consumer waste. If you aren’t aware of the wasteful lifestyle that fast fashion has brought about and the negative consequences associated with fast fashion, I really recommend you look into it-it may really change the way you think about shopping and your wardrobe.
Now, for the good stuff.
I love this dress and the retro pin-up girl vibes I get from the polka dots with bright red Mary Janes. I couldn’t resist a photo with this old time gas pump when we happened upon it!
