Welcome to New York

Welcome to New York

Hello lovelies!

Today I am going to recap my trip to New York City and Pennsylvania for one of my lovely friend’s weddings! I had only been to NYC once before this, but as an avid lover of both Gossip Girl and White Collar, I found myself more than familiar with my surroundings as I walked around. You should have seen me when I recognized the Palace hotel and ran looking for Serena van der Woodsen!

We headed up north for the long weekend early Thursday morning, and came home Sunday night, packing EVERYTHING we could into that short trip!

In ultimate airport chic, I wore my Ann Taylor Loft jumpsuit thrifted from ThredUp. Comfortable enough to be pajamas, but put together for the airport and our first day in the city!

We met my awesome sister and brother-in-law at our hotel on Times Square, then headed out for a day full of museums and fun!

I don’t know about you but the crowds are a little overwhelming to me in NYC, and take some getting used to. Luckily, our first stop was just the thing to calm my nerves: The Met!

Here I am channeling my inner Blair Waldorf on the steps of the Met! I carried my larger Kate Spade crossbody bag (this one is similar) so that I would have enough room for my camera to come with me, but I could still wear it over my shoulder.

If I was living in NYC, I swear I would be in here every day. It must take months to see everything. But, the main exhibit I was going to see was the Manus X Machina exhibit put on by The Costume Institute, and let me tell you it was amazing! Even my poor husband, sister, and brother-in-law had to appreciate some of the looks as I drug them through the exhibit.

I was in awe the whole time so only took a couple of pictures, but this bridal look from Chanel was the centerpiece of the exhibit and was absolutely astounding in person. The level of detail in that train is stunning, and it sparkled so much! If you get the chance to go to the city, this is a must-see.

But don’t worry-we also went to see some of the more husband-friendly exhibits!

Next, we went to the American Museum of Natural History to see the dinosaurs. This museum was really cool, and I particularly enjoyed the dinosaur exhibits-its crazy how big those things really are!

My lovely sister and I in front of the elephants-our grandma’s favorite animal!

Then, we walked through Central Park-at least a small segment of it!

Later that night, we were completely exhausted, so Battle and I enjoyed some pizza and cheesecake and headed to bed for the next day!

On Friday morning, we visited the 9/11 Memorial Museum. I really have no words for what I experienced there. I was in elementary school when 9/11 happened, so it is hard for me to remember much from the events or what life was like before that terrible day. But, as an American visiting that museum inspired so much sadness for the tragedy, patriotism for our country, and pride in the bravery of so many wonderful people who gave their lives that day. This was the highlight of the trip, and the #1 thing I would recommend doing in NYC!

On Friday afternoon I dragged my husband up 5th avenue stopping at Macy’s, Saks, and so many other wonderful stores along the way. I am so lucky to have a man who is willing to spend the afternoon seeing all these amazing clothes I wanted to see, when I know he couldn’t care less! Later, we ate dinner at Rosemary’s in West Village with Battle’s cousin who lives in NYC. It was nice to eat at a place locals love, not a tourist trap, and it was amazing!

Rocking my favorite Who What Wear top from Target for dinner. Excuse the hair-it was so windy in the city! I wore these black high-waisted jeans from Banana Republic for multiple days on this trip-they made me feel like a New Yorker!

Saturday was the wedding of my dear friend from my PhD program to her best friend and love of her life! We drove out to rural Pennsylvania, where they got married at her in-laws property. Even though we got lost on our way and ended up missing the ceremony (long story), we had such a wonderful time and were so happy to be there to celebrate on the best day of their lives!

How gorgeous was the setting for their ceremony? The details for their wedding were amazing!! I wore this Maggy London fit and flare I snagged from TJ Maxx. It is still on available on sale on the Maggy London website here!

Sunday, we headed home from our whirlwind trip. We stopped in upstate NY at Cosimo’s Brick Oven, a delicious restaurant! We had the shrimp scampi pizza (weird, I know!) and it rocked my world.

So delicious! We stopped back by Central Park before heading to the airport. This trip was highlight of my summer and has me wishing for my next trip to NYC!

OMG what an amazing trip! Love the gossip girl reference and everything you wore! I love NYC food! When I travel I like to be comfy but cute. NYC stresses me out because there is so many people and I come from a small town but it’s fun to visit! 🙂

I definitely feel you about the stress of NYC-I am from suburban Atlanta but it’s no match for that city! And yes the food was incredible!

Looks like you had an amazing time! And I love that floral dress!!

I love walking through Central Park! The walk from the Natural History Museum diagonally through the park to The Plaza is a great one!

Thanks!! I got so lost in Central Park lol-I think we attempted to walk that way but never made it to The Plaza! My map reading skills are minimal lol.

Great post! It sounds like you had a wonderful time! I’ve been to New York a large number of times and can definitely agree that NYC can be super overwhelming but there’s a lot of beauty and history there, you just have to get past the hectic nature which sometimes isn’t easy but it seems like you achieved that and were able to enjoy yourself! I adore those museums but especially love the venue for your friends wedding!

I actually just flew out of Boston (home) to come to Maryland (where I lived for 7 years – 4 years in college; 3 years out) for a really good friends wedding this weekend. I typically wear one of my favorite leggings, long tee, and long sweater. Today I added my new converse – which I’m in love with! I was planning to take the train and bus to meet a friend after landed so that outfit was the best option, especially in central Baltimore – in the summer. I’m rambling! I always carry a big purse, this time a long champ bag for my laptop (yay blogging). You look super cute in your travel outfit!

I definitely think it takes a little getting used to the city before I can enjoy it-but once i get over that hump I love looking at all the classic architecture and amazing sites. Summer weddings are the best! I usually wear leggings at the airport so I definitely love the look you’re talking about. And I want a longchamp bag but have never made the investment-the larger sizes definitely work well for traveling!!
