3 Tips for Perfect Pattern Mixing

3 Tips for Perfect Pattern Mixing

Hey Ivory Tower Chic Readers!

Today I wanted to share with you a few tips I follow when attempting pattern mixing! This has been super on trend this season-I’ve seen some amazing stripes and floral mixes I’ve been dying to try.

Pattern-mixing can be complicated for beginners (which I really consider myself!) because you don’t want to look too busy or wild. But, by following a few simple tips you can look chic and classic, while being a little daring!

This was the pattern-mixing outfit I wore the other day! Polka dots and stripes, navy and yellow. Everything was classic and in the same color scheme, which leads me to my first tip.

1. Keep the colors complimentary.

Go with a color scheme you KNOW works together so the look is cohesive.

2. Keep accessories in the same color scheme and simple.

I added a Nine West Clutch in a similar yellow color to my shorts, and my favorite white statement necklace that goes with everything

3. For a classic look, use tried and true patterns like stripes, polka dots, plaid, florals, etc.

Now I’ve admired some amazing mixing of patterns that you would NEVER think would go together-but they work! But if you’re a novice like me and want to try this trend without looking ridiculous, stick to more basic and easy patterns. Stripes and Polka Dots work well.

What pattern mixing have you tried? Do you have any tips to add on how to make pattern mixing work?

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Mixing patterns has always been something that I was afraid of. This blog post was super helpful!

Me too!! I’ve put on what seemed like “crazy” patterns to me and then I see other people rocking similar looks. That’s why I started really simple with it!
